The Neches River National Wildlife Refuge is an important new East Texas environmental tourism destination that will open to the general public on February 25, 2017. The hours are 1 PM to 4 PM and admission is free of charge. Following a short program in which scientific work at the refuge will be discussed, US Fish and Wildlife Service personnel and scientists and their graduate students will lead visitors on walks through the woods and along the banks of the Neches River to acquaint them with the variety of wildlife that calls the Refuge home. Bottled water will be furnished, but visitors need to bring their own camp chairs. For any additional information required, please contact Refuge Friends President, Von Dawson, at 903-391-2444 or PO Box 989, Jacksonville, Texas 75766.
