I. QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Prefer a two (2) year degree or certificate of training in billing and coding from an accredited program or university or approved work experience is required.
B. Must be computer literate in the following areas:
1. Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
2. Sending/ Receiving E-mails
3. Navigating the Internet for business purposes
4. Extremely comfortable w/medical billing software and collections.
C. Good analytical/ problem-solving skills.
D. Detail-oriented and organized.
E. Knowledge of good word processing and quality typing skills for medical updates, files, and patient records.
II. JOB KNOWLEDGE:
A. A thorough understanding of the concepts of medical billing and collections.
B. A sound understanding of how the billing position ties into the “big picture” of
the organization’s overall operation, but, more specifically, its financial position
(revenue, receivables, payables, etc.).
C. A good understanding of how Medical Records affects medical billing.
D. Ability to effectively communicate complex information.
E. Ability to operate with minimal supervision.
F. Ability to work independently and function effectively under pressure situations.
G. Ability to relate well with peers, business partners, and hospice families.
H. Ability to work consistently under pressure. To be objective, to keep feelings,
prejudices, and personal problems from having a negative impact on work
performance.
III. FUNCTIONS:
A. Bill multiple times each month: Medicare, Medicaid, and Private Insurance for monies each entity owes Hospice in the Pines (HIP), for services rendered to the insurance companies’ beneficiaries (i.e., HIP’s patients), providing the Administration with necessary updates.
B. Work A/R Aging report daily/weekly, to ensure that Hospice in the Pines collects cash on everything billed, both in current and prior periods. Follow up on delayed/rejected claims in a timely manner. Maintain quality ethics and sound facts of all accounts.
C. Maintain records and documentation to ensure that all physicians, nursing homes, and/or medical facilities (hospitals) are paid
upon Hospice in the Pines’ receipt of cash payment (related to the billing).
D. Provide backup support for medical records department as needed.
E. Keep a close working relationship with Administration, business, clinical, and medical records departments to ensure that all relevant information flows to necessary personnel.
F. Develop and maintain a close working relationship with all contracted
nursing homes; work with regulatory agencies to verify correct billing rates
established by the State, (i.e. RUG) for each Hospice Medicaid patient.
G. Complete a concise monthly billing report to verify total claims processed and
aging/posting reconciliations of these claims.
H. Provide essential documentation to hospice physicians for the completion of death certificates in a timely manner as needed.
I. Perform all duties with knowledge and billing skill to accomplish job functions.
Report any and all major problems to supervisor and CEO.
J. Must comply with all agency infection control and COVID policies.
K. Attend trainings and educational seminars to improve performance outcomes.
L. All other duties as assigned.
IV. ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-CLINICAL
POSITIONS (to perform essential functions):
A. Must be able to climb stairs.
B. Must be able to reach a minimum of 36 inches in all directions.
C. Must be able to have full body rotation and mobility (i.e., bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching).
D. Must be able to climb a ladder.
E. Must be able to lift and carry.
F. Must have full hand and arm usage for operating office and medical equipment.
G. Must be able to push and pull.
H. Must be able to handle cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum, broom, mop and duster) to maintain cleanliness.
I. Must be able to demonstrate good sensory skills and motor coordination.
