Overview
The Executive Director (ED) of the Winnie Berry Humane Society of Angelina County is a dynamic leader responsible for the overall management, administration, and strategic direction of the organization. As a no-kill, 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal shelter, the Humane Society is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of animals in the community through adoption, rescue, education, and spay/neuter programs. The ED ensures the organization fulfills its mission while operating efficiently and effectively. Working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and senior leadership, the ED fosters a culture of continuous improvement, drives organization development, and upholds the organization’s core values.

- Represent the organization in the community, building relationships with donors, partners, and community members.
Key Responsibilities-
Leadership & Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the mission and goals of the organization.
Fundraising & Financial Management:
- Oversee the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, including grants, events, donor cultivation, and sponsorships.
- Prepare and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with nonprofit financial practices and reporting requirements.
- Maintain and grow the organization’s donor base to ensure long-term sustainability.
Operations Management:
- Oversee operations of the shelter, ensuring adherence to no-kill principles and best practices for animal care and welfare.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding animal care, shelter operations, and employment.
- Evaluate and improve shelter programs and services to meet the needs of the community and animals.
- Plan and oversee special events, ensuring they align with the organization's mission and fundraising goals.
Building Maintenance:
- Ensure the shelter’s facilities are well-maintained, safe, and compliant with all health and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors for repairs, upgrades, and routine maintenance.
- Develop and manage a schedule for ongoing building maintenance and improvements.
Animal Welfare:
- Ensure the highest standards of care for all animals, including medical, behavioral, and nutritional needs.
- Develop and implement programs that promote adoptions, foster care, and community support for animals.
- Collaborate with veterinary partners to provide necessary medical care for animals in the shelter’s care.
Human Resources & Staff Development:
- Recruit, hire, and supervise staff members, fostering professional growth and development.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to staff.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels and a safe working environment.
Community Engagement & Public Relations:
- Act as the public face of the organization, promoting its mission and programs through media, public appearances, and community events.
- Develop and implement education and outreach initiatives to promote responsible pet ownership and the benefits of adoption.
- Build strong partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and government entities.
Website and Social Media Management:
- Oversee and update the organization’s website to ensure accurate and engaging content.
- Develop and manage social media strategies to promote the shelter’s mission, events, and adoptable animals.
- Monitor online engagement and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Utilize digital platforms to enhance fundraising efforts, community outreach, and awareness campaigns.
Board Governance:
- Serve as the primary liaison between the staff and the Board of Directors.
- Provide regular updates and reports on operations, financials, and strategic progress.
- Collaborate with the Board to ensure strong governance practices and effective decision-making.
Qualifications-
Education & Experience:
- Associate degree in nonprofit management, business administration, animal science, or a related field such as veterinary technician experience, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years in a leadership role, preferably within a nonprofit or animal welfare organization.
- Proven experience in fundraising, financial management, and donor relations.
- Familiarity with animal welfare issues and no-kill sheltering principles is preferred.

Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a shelter environment, including exposure to animals, cleaning agents, and loud noises.
- Regular attendance at evening and weekend events may be required, as well as some holidays are possible.
Compensation:
Compensation of $45,000-$52,500 per year will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits may include paid time off and professional development opportunities.
