A Light Equipment Operator for the Water & Sewer Department is responsible for operating and maintaining various types of light machinery and equipment. This role requires attention to detail, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/GED
- A valid Texas Driver License
- Ability to obtain D & C Water Distribution/Wastewater Treatment License within 36 months of hire
- One (1) year of operational experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment and trucks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the geographic layout of the city
- Knowledgeable about the operating characteristics, methods, techniques, procedures, and maintenance of relevant machines and equipment
- Skill in the setup and operation of tools associated with construction grading and excavating process
- Skill in the operations of motorized/ specialized equipment and vehicles for construction, repair, and maintenance
- Ability to read and understand written guidelines from manuals, blueprints, and regulations
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic
MAJOR DUTIES
- Perform skilled and semi-skilled general labor, maintenance, and repair work
- Operate a variety of motorized/ specialized equipment and vehicles for construction, repair, and maintenance (e.g., backhoes, and excavators)
- Assist in maintaining the City’s water and sewer systems, infrastructure, facilities, and grounds, following all city ordinances, state and federal regulations, and procedures
- Transport material, vehicles, and equipment to the job site
- Inspects, cleans, and performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment
- Complete required daily logs and reports
- Is assigned to an on-call schedule as needed
- Perform various other duties as assigned
