LICENSED PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT
RESPONSIBLE TO: REGISTERED PHYSICAL THERAPIST
MAIN FUNCTION: Provides prescribed treatments of physical therapy which involve a complex and sophisticated level of modalities designed to restore the patient to his/her
maximum rehabilitation potential.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Performs direct physical therapy services as planned by the Registered Physical Therapist staff and certified by the patient’s physician.
- Assesses, reports and records patient’s status and progress to the Registered
- Physical Therapists, physician and the health care team.
- Participates in clinical conferences and inservice programs to share and stimulate the health care team in meeting rehabilitation goals.
- Delivers services to patients in accordance with accepted standards of treatment specifically effective for the condition from which the patient suffers.
- Completes appropriate clinical reports, including the one-page visit note, documenting patient limitations and progress, and submits to the Rehab Coordinator within 24 hours of the visit.
- Assumes responsibility for equipment signed out for patient use.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Rehab Supervisor and/or Registered Therapist.
- Full-time LPTA’s need to make a minimum of 35 visits per week.
- Complies with departmental and Company policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of an approved Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
- Licensed as a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant in the State.
- One year of physical therapy experience.
- Must show evidence of liability and insurance coverage, if contractual.MINIMUM TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Automobile, lotion and pen.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be able to work as scheduled and report to work on time.
- Is able to bend and stand an average of six hours per day.
- Must be flexible to crouch and crawl around patients.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to pull and/or pull up to 75 pounds.
- Is able to take notes up to 3 hours per day.
- Is able to work in a stressful environment.
- Is able to work in various working conditions.
- Is able to drive to client’s homes, which may be 50 to 100 miles per day.
- Is able to assess and communicate well with patients, co-workers, and the general public.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Must have good manual dexterity, and feeling for massaging and rubbing.
- Has good eye and hand coordination.
- Is able to analyze situations well.
- Can handle multi-task.
- Is able to operate an automobile.
- Has an excellent guest relation skill.
- Is able to manage time effectively.
- Is able to follow Universal Precautions.
- Has access to personal transportation.
