POSITION: ACCOUNTANT
REPORTS TO: CFO/CONTROLLER
CLASSIFICATION: NON-EXEMPT FULL TIME
BASIC FUNCTION:
Performs complex technical accounting work. Work involves performing assignments in recording, classifying, examining, and verifying financial records, documents, or reports. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required.
− Responsible for entering data into MIP/Abila accounting system-accounts payable, journal vouchers, and cash receipts.
− Prepare accounts payable for processing and approval.
− Files and maintains clerical records and reports pertinent to accounting and bookkeeping operations.
− Responsible for maintaining files of documents and records in orderly and auditable fashion.
− Assists in month-end closeout activities with Assistant Controller. Consists of supplies allocation, prepaids, postage allocation, copier allocations, and bank reconciliations.
− Perform payroll-related activities such as schedule 941 payments, prepare reports/ remittance payments for retirement plan, and payroll transfers.
− Prepare deposit slips and maintain cash control records.
− Prepares journal entries and cash vouchers for entry to computerized general ledger system.
− Assists in gathering data for annual audit of the agency.
− Performs related work as assigned by Controller and Assistant Controller that may consist of filing duties that coincide in the daily operation of the Finance Department.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and experience in governmental or fund accounting.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS, PERSONAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
− Must have a VALID Texas driver’s license, proper vehicle insurance and use of vehicle to travel throughout the region
− Utmost professional and personal integrity
− Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the
maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems. − Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are required.
− Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Word are a must.
− Must be able to work quickly and accurately to meet critical deadlines.
− Able to physically file daily fiscal files and relocate fiscal files at year-end.
− Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of employees.
− Establish and maintain working relationships within the organization.
− Personal values consistent with the Deep East Texas Council of Governments.
SALARY:
$45,000 to $55,000 annually, depending on experience. Benefits include retirement plan, health insurance, and other benefits.
